CELEBRATE CINCO de MAYO IN PILSEN
Event Overview:
This event will occur on Saturday, May 7, 2011 beginning at 10:00am,
lasting until 8:00pm with at least 8 chefs competing their own mole recipes
for one of two awards; either the official over-all winner of the Mole Cook-
Off or the People’s Choice Award. Concurrent to the Mole Cook-Off, a
market will feature local Pilsen vendors. Entertainment will include various
traditional Mexican music including Mariachis performing at various times
throughout the day and traditional Lucha Libre wrestlers. We will to offer
traditional Mexican alcoholic beverages (micheladas, sangria) as an option
to attendees. This event is being hosted by Eighteenth Street Development
Corporation (ESDC), a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.

El Zocalo: Located South of 18th Street on Paulina Ave. El Zocalo serves
as a Mexican-style town plaza, a site for community events and
opportunities for vendors. It is conveniently located across from the CTA’s

Las Palmas (Best Mole Award 2011) -Pollo en Mole con arroz, Borrego
en Mole Negro, Tostadita de ceviche blue marlin con pico de gallo y salsa,
Camarones en sauce de manzana y durazno y moniatto
Mundial Cocina Mestiza -Mole wings in Amrarillo Mole with sesame seeds
Platano with Mole Verde, creme fraiche y pico de gallo
Taqueria La Ciudad -Mole Quesadillas with mushrooms or Pumpkin flower
Red Mole, Green Mole, Rice, Home made tortillas
DeCero Modern Day Taqueria -Mini Tamales de queso de Chibo (goat cheese),
Taquitos de Pollo con Mole y queso fresco
Zocalo Restaurant (Best Mole Award 2010) -Conejo en Mole Amarillo, Taquitos de barbacoa,
Taquitos de Cochinita Pibil, Ceviche Campechano, Arroz Poblano y Frijoles, Agua de Jamaica

The Mole cook off will include awards in two
categories; Best Mole Award and the People’s
Choice Award.
The cook-off judges will be an eclectic mix of
Chicagoans:
Steve Dolinsky-WLS-TV (ABC) “Hungry Hound”
David Tamarkin- Food Editor Time Out Chicago
Alderman Daniel Solis- of the 25th Ward
In addition to sampling the mole and other food specialties, vendors will also be
selling Micheladas (Mexican-style Beer Bloody Mary’s) and Sangria. Participants
will also have the opportunity to shop at the outdoor Mercado/Market that will be
filled with local Pilsen businesses displaying a variety or artisans and merchandise.
A variety of live entertainment will fill the day including:
Mexican Dance Ensemble!!! (Mexican Folkloric Dancers)
Musical acts will feature local bands that comprise the Pilsen Soundtrack V2.0
which includes such artists as
Bob Rok (hip-hop)
Azul de Noche (spanish blues)
Benjamin Anaya y los Extraños Unidos (samba funk)
Tarima Son (son)
Malafacha (ska)
and the much anticipated return of the high flying Lucha Libre Wrestlers will
be displaying their acrobatics at about mid afternoon.
